Parachuting Procedures at Fife Airport
Please note that on 29th July 2009 the Safety Regulation Group of the CAA granted permission for Skydive St Andrews parachute club to operate at Fife Airport until 31st March 2010. The skydiving operations are only operation on the following days: Friday: 1700-2100 Local Saturday: 0900-2100 Sunday/Bank Holidays: 0900-2030
All radio calls from drop aircraft and drop controllers will be on the Fife Frequency 130.450Mhz
The airfield has 3 skydive operational statuses: COLD - No skydiving operations ACTIVE - Skydiving operations are happening that day but no drop is currently taking place. LIVE - A drop aircraft is moving in to the overhead and will imminently be dropping skydivers. No aircraft will be permitted in the air inside the ATZ and no aircraft will be permitted to enter the ATZ from the time the drop aircraft calls running in until all skydivers are on the ground and clear of the runway, and the ATZ has been declared open again. While the drop zone is Live, all rotors and propellors must be stopped on the ground. The predicted total time for the LIVE status is around 5-6 minutes.
Full details can be found in the documents below. Any questions, please talk to the Operation’s Staff at Fife Airport, or call on 01592753792 for advice.
Emergency traffic will take priority - in the event of a Pan or Mayday all drops will, where possible, be stopped.
The following documents will assist pilots in understanding the procedures to follow if flying in the Fife ATZ on an ACTIVE day. The status of Parachute Operations can be checked when calling for PPR or by way of a notice board at the airfield.
In support of safe operations at Fife, we have jointly developed and agreed a set of procedures described in a Letter of Agreement; please see a link to it here: … Letter of Agreement V1 29 Jul 09 Also to assist safe operations at the airfield we have devised a hand-over radio procedure to help us close the ATZ during live para-dropping periods and re-open it afterwards; please follow this link: … Radio Call Handover Sequence Please read through these documents carefully and note that all pilots still remain responsible for their own separation, good airmanship and safety at all times. This will take effort from all airfield users to make it work and your commitment to adopting these procedures would be greatly appreciated. |
